Write a report on Eve Teasing in Bangladesh
Eve-teasing in Bangladesh
Sujon Ahmed , Dhaka, 05 April: The nuisance of the eve-teasers in Bangladesh is increasing alarmingly day by day. The tragic suicide of 13 years old girl Nafiza Akhter Pinky shows us just how pathetic eve-teasing can be. Pinky was a brilliant student of class nine of Comilla Govt. Girls' High School. Their house was situated at Shaymoli only half a kilometer away from her school.
On her way to school, she was stalked by her 22 years old male neighbour and some of his friends who, according to her family, persisted with ribald comments, smutty jokes, coarse laughter, sly whistle, and indecent exposure. The youths had been teasing Pinky for several months. On 03 April, she went out of her house to buy some medicine for a niggling hand injury.
The neighbour and his friends blocked her way and made suggestive remarks. She became angry and protested angrily. After that the youths became more aggressive and started to use her crude language, pulling off her scarf, and slapping her face. Pinky fell down on the street under a barrage of blows. Some neighbour apparently saw the incident, but did not dare to stop it or protest against it.
Pinky could not tolerate the insult. Returning home, she hanged herself with a saree tied to a ceiling fan in her bedroom. She found suicide as the only way that could enable her to escape this social pandemic. The Superintendent of Police says that Pinky's case is a matter of great concern and he has already ordered police to arrest the criminals without any delay.
