Rangpur Correspondent: Acid was thrown on a housewife of Monthona under sadar upazila December 30. The housewife sustained serious burn injuries on. 
Police did not register the case against the man who threw acid on the housewife, it is alleged.
Local people and family sources said that a steel plate was stolen from the house of Hossen Ali, neighbour of Mongila Begum on December 28, Mongila (45) was suspected.
The people of the house picked Mongila up from her house and beat her up mercilessly. At one stage of their torture, they poured acid into the lower part of her body which was burnt badly.
Mongila was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital by the local peple who set her free from their clutches. Later local unit of BRAC on January 5 took up the responsibility of her treatment and sent her to the Acid Survival Foundation, Dhaka for better treatment.
Mongila's son alleged that police did not register the case against them who poured acid on her body on December 30. But police said, none came to the police station in this connection.
