The 16th of December is the 'Victory Day' of Bangladesh. It is the most memorable day in the history of Bangladesh. It is called 'Victory Day' because on this day the freedom fighters of Bangladesh got victory over the occupied army of the then Pakistan.
The people of Bangladesh celebrate the day with great joy and vigour. Because of the great sacrifice of the patriotic sons of our nation, Bangladesh came into being and occupied a place in the world map. On this day, we remember the mammoth task of our beloved martyrs who laid down their lives for the country. Every year we observe the day with great solemnity when the whole nation pays a glowing tribute to the departed souls of the martyrs. The day begins with gun shots. The whole country puts on a festive look. The national flag is hoisted on the top of houses and offices. Many government and non-government organizations hold meetings, seminars, symposiums, and discussions all over the country. People regardless of class and religion go to the national mausoleum and offer flowers there as a symbol of profound homage to the valiant freedom fighters.
The victory day is a source of great joy, hope and inspiration for us. Our victory day symbolizes not only the victory over the barbarous Pakistani army but it also symbolizes the victory against injustice, falsehood, and slavery.
