There is a proverb, "Every man must skin his own skunk". A man must stand on his own feet. God helps those who help themselves. It means that those who are self-reliant and make an effort are likely to get what they want. But those who sit back and wait only for divine assistance are not likely to get what they want. A man should depend on himself for the things he needs. In other words, he should trust his own ability rather than that of others for everything he needs. It is the divine law made by God himself. The man who makes an effort to achieve something develops his latent powers, which give him the ability to attain his objectives. A self-reliant man regards depending on others as mere begging. He regards it as a matter of self-respect to depend on himself for anything he needs. Every human being should cultivate the quality of self-reliance.
