Flood in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is called a land of natural calamities because every year various natural calamities like flood, cyclone, tidal bores, heavy rainfall, earthquake, river erosion and drought visit our country. Among them flood is the most common natural calamity.
Flood means excess of water inundating certain area. It is almost an annual affair in Bangladesh. It occurs particularly during the rainy season. The effects of flood are dangerous. It causes a great loss to our life and property. Hundreds of people suffer from untold sufferings. Many people become homeless. Many people and animals die. Crops are damaged, trees are uprooted and houses are destroyed. The affected people suffer greatly for want of food, clothes, drinking water, medicine etc. The after effects of flood are more dangerous. After flood famine breaks out. People suffer from various serious diseases like cholera, typhoid, dysentery etc. The prices of things go up. The people have to remain without food.
However, we must control flood at any cost. Necessary steps should be taken to prevent flood. We should plant more and more trees. The environment must be kept free from pollution. We have to dig canals and make dams and embankment. Possible precautionary measures should be taken to face the danger of flood. Public awareness should be raised. Both the government and the conscious people should work together to reduce the sufferings of the affected people during floods.
