Brain Drain

The term 'brain drain' means the migration of meritorious, skilled and experienced people to foreign countries. It is a great problem in our country.

There is a prevailing tendency among the educated people to go abroad for better opportunities. It is generally the trained personnel who try to go abroad for higher income and better living conditions. Doctors, engineers, teachers, and skilled labors belong to this category. Life in most of the developing countries of the world is very difficult and salary is generally very poor. Most of the people suffer from insecurity. Many people, therefore, feel unwilling to live in the country. So, they try to go abroad. Brain drain is a great loss for a developing country like Bangladesh. When the highly educated and trained people go away to other countries, our educational system, administration and development work suffer a lot.

The country has to spend much money to educate a person. If he goes away, the country does not get the service from that person. We should consider the problem seriously. We should discourage highly qualified people to go abroad. Govt. should offer proper scope and salary to them. Above all, we should inspire greater patriotic feeling among people. One may get monetary help abroad, but exact mental satisfaction only in our homeland.
