Begging
A beggar is a person who goes from door to door and person to person for alms. A beggar earns his livelihood by begging and thus manages his family. But begging is not a profession. Rather, it is a serious social problem.
Begging cannot contribute to the national economy because it is not a productive profession. Moreover, it is a business of dishonor. Many people of our country are soft-minded. They easily feel pity for the beggars. Besides, deprivation of rights, poverty, illiteracy, idleness, lack of work, lack of social security, lack of consciousness etc. are also responsible for this problem. Many people often become the victims of natural disasters and lose everything. Then they cannot but take begging for their survival. Family conflict, lack of family support, indifference of parents etc. may become the cause of begging. Begging is a curse. It gives rise to many anti-social activities.
The government should take some effective steps to solve the problem. Different NGOs and micro-credit institutions can work well for the poor people so that they can live well. Recently, the government has started giving monetary help to the older people as well as the widows. Some other steps such as rehabilitation programme, old age pension etc. can be taken to reduce begging. The rich and the educated people should come forward to help the poor people in all possible ways. Finally, public awareness should be raised to discourage begging. Thus, we can get rid of the curse of begging.
