Buses carry people to their destinations through roads and highways. They stop at different places on their routes to take and leave the passengers. These places of their stoppage are known as bus stands or bus stops. A terminal or end is also called a bus stand.
A bus stand has some special features. A bus stand is usually a place of great din and bustle. Buses arrive and depart and in this process give rise to a hue and cry. The jostling of passengers, the cries of hawkers, the approach of beggars, the altercations between the conductors and passengers are some of the disgusting features of a bus stand. Besides the harsh horns, the roars of engines and smell of smoke make the place very uncomfortable. Usually there are sheds for passengers to wait. But now a day most of the sheds are occupied by hawkers. These sheds accommodate snack-shops, tea-stalls and even shops of books, journals, magazines and newspapers. Passengers collect tickets from the bus counters and wait for their bus. In cities, passengers wait in queue for getting into the bus.
There are public toilets for the passengers but usually these are not clean. There are pick-pockets also in a bus stand. Their main target is innocent village people. Since bus journeys are getting more and more popular, steps should be taken to improve the general conditions in bus stand in the interest of the traveling public.
