a. Use of one or ones
one = a/an ones = more than one.
নিচের বাক্যগুলো লক্ষ্য করুন :
1. He could not lift the box. It was a heavy one. (box)
2. Here are some books. Which ones do you want?
Which ones অর্থ Which books.
Give me some mangoes. Large ones please. (large mangoes)
b. Use of someone, somebody, everyone, everybody
someone / somebody = a person
everyone / everybody = all the people
no one / nobody = no person
something = a thing = every thing = all the things
nothing = no things etc.
মনে রাখতে হবে হাঁ-বোধক বাক্যে someone, somebody; প্রশ্ন ও না বোধক বাক্যে anyone, anybody ব্যবহার করা হয় ।
Example: Affir - I see someone / somebody there.
Q. - Do you see anyone / anybody there?
Affir - I see something here.
Q - Do you see anything here?
N. - I do not see anything here. অথবা I see nothing here.
everyone, everybody, anyone, nobody ইত্যাদির পর Singular verb হয় ।
যেমন - Everyone is happy. Nobody is always right. Everybody sometimes makes some mistakes.
তবে one ও body যুক্ত থাকলে Indefinite pronoun-এর singular verb হওয়া সত্ত্বেও আমরা they, them, their ব্যবহার করি ।
Example: Everyone is doing their duty.
Has everybody collected their luggage?
I haven't given anyone their presents yet.
Everybody is present now. Talk to them.
Everyone is quiet. They look sad.
c. everyone, everybody, something, anything ইত্যাদির পর আমরা adjective বা else ব্যবহার করতে পারি ।
Example: I shall tell you something strange.
Have you seen anything exciting in today's match?
We always play cards. Let us play something else.
He took tea but everyone else had coffee.
You have got plenty. Do you need anything else?
d. Use of : a friend of mine / my own room, on my own / by myself
1. মনে রাখতে হবে a friend of mine / yours / his / hers / theirs (not, a friend of me / you / him etc.)
Example : A friend of mine is getting married.
We went on holiday with some friends of ours.
He had an argument with a neighbour of my father's.
2. my own, your own, my own house, your own car; etc.
Example : I like to live in my own house.
It is your own fault that you have no money.
3. on my own / by myself.
on my own / by myself = alone
Example : I like living here on my own / by myself.
Did you go on holiday on your own / by yourself.
Learner drivers are not allowed to drive on their own / by themeselves.
