Dhaka city Corporation (DCC) carried out operation throughout the night to remove illegal bill boards from different parts of the city. This operation was carried out from 11 p.m. on Friday till down on Sunday. During this time at least 10 Bill boards from Sheraton and Kakrail areas were removed with the help of crane, dumper , heavy truck and grass cutter.

DCC official Mr Sujon Ahmed informed the correspondent that the concerned firms were given notice to remove these illegal Bill Boards by 10th of May. But they fail to comply with the order and now DCC is doing this job. He furthers informed that the Bill Boards are required to sat at 30 feet above the ground. But no one abided by this system and most of them were erected as high as 100 to 150 feet. These were mostly done by some advertising firm’s breakings the rules. If there is any storm, these boards may break and fall on electricity lines causing accidents,

Another DCC source revealed that many advertising firms have evaded taxes in large amount worth cores of taka. Through the Govt. have permitted them to erect Bill Board of particular sizes, but they erected bigger Bill Boards and earned large amount of money from the clients, but did not pay taxes accordingly. Moreover, there is rule of erect Bill Boards at least 50 meters away from any roundabout. Any board placed nearer to this distance may cause sight interruption to the driver and cause accidents. But the advertising firms have always ignored these rules for their own benefit.
