The half of the total population in our country is women. They play an important role to establish peace and build the nation. Our women folk joined the nation building activities hand by hand with their male partners after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
It is undeniable that most of the noticeable changes in our country would not be possible without the participation of our working women. Women are now contributing to the society economically and politically. By receiving higher education, they are now working as engineers, doctors, teachers, civil servants, pilots, and above all politicians. Not only the educated women who are contributing to the economy of the country but also the women with little or no education are coming out from their cocoons to work and contribute to the society. The holding of the office of the prime minister by women for five consecutive times proves that the role of women in Bangladesh is very important. Now they are not only running state affairs but also representing public opinions at the parliament. They are also holding key position in the national activities and even getting involved in armed forces. It is unfortunate that in the past the activities of women in the family were not appreciated at all. Rather, they were neglected. They were confined in household activities and rearing up children.
In our male dominated society, it was thought that women were born to do household chores and to obey their husband. But the situation is changed now. They are working together with men, increasing their family income, and becoming self-reliant. Now their husband and other male persons of the society are realizing that without the involvement of women, true development of a nation cannot be possible. We must not forget the famous saying that one woman is the cause behind every development.
