Present age is the age of science and technology. Many scientific inventions have made our lifestyle comfortable and enjoyable. This invention of science has brought almost the whole world into our living room. The utility of a scientific discovery mainly depends upon the user of it. When the user uses it fairly, it is a good invention; otherwise it is a bad invention. Satellite TV is such an invention of modern science.
Satellite TV channels are nowadays very familiar to the people of our country and are within common people’s reach. It is a very effective medium of recreation. The programmes shown by various channels are very attractive. Desire to know the unknown and to see the unseen is really fulfilled by the satellite TV channels. Channels of foreign countries help us to know the culture, tradition, etc of those countries. Through satellite channels we can get the current news of the world. Some channels are very essential because they telecast up-to-date news of the world. By watching documentary channels like the National Geographic Channel or the Discovery Channels we can learn many things. Moreover, these channels are the best friends to the lonely and sickly persons to pass their time.
But satellite TV channels have some demerits also. Sometimes the channels do not match our culture. They telecast some programmes which affect the viewers very adversely. Sometimes the viewers get addicted to these channels. There are also some channels which telecast indecent programmes. These programmes leave very bad impact on the mind of the viewers. Sometimes, some viewers forget their own culture and adopt the culture of foreign countries. This is really a threat to our own culture and tradition.
Actually, the uses and abuses of the satellite TV channels depend on the viewers. How the viewers are taking the programmes is the matter. Everything has its positive and negative sides. It is our responsibility to take the good things from satellite TV channels and avoid their bad or evil things. Besides, the government should put some restriction on the telecast of ht satellite TV channels
